Finland is the world’s sixth most competitive economy according to The Global Competitiveness Report 2008-2009 (WEF).

The ranking of Finland in the survey shows that a world-class educational system and the focus on technology and innovation are successful strategies for boosting competitiveness in an increasingly complex global economy.

Finland has a large number of well-educated employees. Finland has made the development of a well-educated, multilingual, motivated workforce a national priority. The public sector accounts for about 25 per cent of all jobs in Finland.

There are, however, projections of a coming labour shortage in Finland, primarily due to the fact that the post-World War II generation is on the verge of retirement age.

Even though English is widely spoken, the Finnish language is worth studying – knowledge of the language is the key to Finnish society and the employment market!
